Experiences and Countermeasures of a Perinatal Ward Nursing Manager Dealing with Family Members’ Problematic Behaviors

Background: When family members and/or patients behave in a problematic way, this hinders the provision of safe and secure medical care. During perinatal period, family’s relationships functions change significantly, each member is prone to experiencing stress. As such, conflict arises easily between staff. Aims: Therefore, we conducted study shed light on following phenomena: 1) members’ behaviors; 2) concerns ward nurse manager (hereafter referred as manager) nurses; 3) countermeasures carried out by manager, together with nurses, based manager’s experiences. Methods: We an 80-minute, semi-structured interview which analyzed content her narrated accounts. Results: According findings, actions include verbal abuse; arrogance, unreasonableness, selfish violent conduct; nurses’ fears worries about responses gradually becoming involved members; resistance staying patient discharge. In addition, examined nurses: resolute consistent attempted enforcement measures taken deal who exhibit engagement while trying avoid preparation that anticipates occurrence cooperation team; hospital organization; social resources outside hospital; protection. Conclusions: With awareness team toward engage actions, staff try unify their response share feelings hardship other.
